Amelia and Daniel’s Surprise Wedding at the Tannery

Amelia and Daniel threw a surprise wedding for their friends and family at The Tannery in March. Their guests thought they were attending the engagement party at the Blue Smoke room but that was just the start of the evening. Check out Amelia and Daniel’s Wedding Film right here.

In order to keep the wedding a surprise the ceremony was set for 6pm. which meant that Amelia, and Daniel had some free time early on. We devised a plan to start the day at the beach. It was the most relaxed and fun way to start the day.

As Amelia got ready she was joined by her mother and a few friends who were in on the big secret. While bridesmaid Sam did everyone’s make up, I got a few shots of the wedding rings and Amelia’s wedding dress before heading out to catch up with Daniel and best man Justin. I also had to drop off my gear at the Tannery in advance of the evening as I couldn’t risk giving the game away when I arrived for the ceremony. As best I could I would need to pass as just another guess until the secret was out 😁

I got a few shots with Daniel, Justin and Daniel’s parents. In the end I didn’t include the classic ‘getting ready’ shots from this part of the day in the final Wedding Film. Instead I used the natural moments between everyone (because Daniel would be getting dressed again later in the day).

Sam’s daughter and Amelia’s niece, Freya, was around while the girls got ready. After Justin and Daniel arrived to pick them all up I got this lovely sequence with Justin and his daughter as they checked out her special dress.

At the Blue Smoke room Daniel took the stage and made the big announcement that he and Amelia were inviting everyone to the wedding and that it would be all going down within the hour!

While Daniel and Amelia got redressed (and had their hair redone in Amelia’s case!) the staff at The Tannery transformed the mezzanine into a stunning space ready for a wedding ceremony.

Julie Lassen officiated the ceremony and in a few short moments Amelia and Daniel were married and walking back down the aisle.

Amelia and Daniel had won the services of Wild and Grace for the Photography on the day. Katherine took us up into the Port Hills for a quick and beautiful photoshoot, we had to move fast as the sun was setting.

Back at The Tannery we settled in for some rousing speeches and the first dance before the lights went down and the party really began. 😊

Daniel and Amelia’s wedding was truly unique, from the relaxed start at the beach, to their surprise announcement. It was terrific fun to capture at every moment.

Here’s what they had to say about my service:
