Jess and Jonah’s Cardboard Cathedral Wedding
Jess and Jonah were married in the Christchurch Transitional Cathedral (the Cardboard Cathedral) and held their reception at Larcomb Vineyard. I was there to capture the Ceremony and Photoshoot. Check out their Wedding Film below.
It was a beautiful day filled with laughter and smiles. I had a great time shooting alongside Photographer Kris Willard.
Join me now as I talk through some of my favourite shots and moments from Jess and Jonah’s Wedding day.
The extra long aisle at the Cardboard Cathedral meant I was able to get a great shot following Jess and her father. The walk down the aisle is my favourite part of the Ceremony so the longer the aisle the more time I have to capture it with different shots. 😁
Because the Cathedral is so spacious I was able to set up cameras up the front and get some great side on shots of Jess and Jonah
And I had four great angles on the kiss! A close up on the action, the shot of Jess’s reaction right after, an angle with all the groomsmen clapping and a big wide shot when they hugged - I love that Jess and Jonah gave each other a hug right after. 😁
My favourite moment of the day, I got this shot right after Jess and Jonah had signed the register. Super cute!
When I set up cameras off to the side of the Ceremony it’s a bit of a gamble. I don’t like cameras in front of guests as that’s too intrusive, and the flip side is it’s very easy for a guest to move and block my shot without even meaning to. So I never really know what I’ll catch but if I can get even one usable moment then it’s worth doing. Sometimes though everything lines up better than I could have hoped.
Jess and Jonah link arms and make their way back down the aisle. In the foreground we have someone (Jess’s father I think?) clapping away. It makes for a great visual. Although check it out in the context of the video because clapping looks better in motion!
Then it was off to to Larcomb Vineyard where Jess and Jonah’s Photographer Kris led us in a relaxed and fun photoshoot with loads of opportunity for great shots (all the shots here on the blog are extracted from Jess and Jonah’s Wedding Film).
Jess and Jonah had a relaxed picnic in the middle of their photoshoot and it was the perfect way to get shots of them when they were truly at ease and just enjoying the day.
My advice to couples planing their wedding day: the photoshoot can be the most relaxed and easy going part of the whole day. Plan a picnic and give yourselves time to chill out with your friends!
Kris found some beautiful spots to get some focused shots of Jess and Jonah by themselves. These were the shots I used to close out their wedding film. Beautiful stuff!
Here’s what Jess and Jonah had to say about me and the film I made for them!
Aw thanks Jess! It was a pleasure to join you on your day and create a wedding film for you!
Thanks for reading everybody!
I’ve got editing to get back into 😉
Cheers,
Rowan
