Sarah and Conor’s Next Day Edit with Photography!

Wait, What?! A highlights video that’s ready the next day WITH PHOTOGRAPHY?! That’s insanity, right?!

Yeah, a few years ago I would have called that crazy and impossible. But it only took a few seasons offering the Next Day Edit before I was itching to try this out. So when Sarah and Conor got in touch asking for a highlights video and some simple photo coverage I took the opportunity to pitch them on the idea that I’d been mulling over. I was nervous before the day arrived. Would it even be possible? If it was, would Sarah and Conor be happy with the result? Would I? Capturing a wedding day isn’t a responsibility I take lightly. I was nervous as I counted down the days until their early February wedding

Spoiler alert… Sarah and Conor’s Wedding day went unbelievably smoothly. I had a blast and I couldn’t be happier with the Photos and Videos I put together for them. It was so much more straight forward and relaxed as a service than I could ever have predicted.

Check out some of my absolute favourite shots from their bridal party photo shoot right here. After that I’ll talk through how this exciting new service works and what’s included as I share more photos from throughout their day and the video I made and had ready for Sarah and Conor the very. Next. Day! 😮🤪

I’ve been offering a combined Photo and Video service for the last three years. That service is designed to give my clients full photographic and video coverage of the whole day, by shooting video all day and dedicated photos at various key points. Hundreds of stills can also be extracted from the video that was shot to make the film.

This service is going to be simpler and focused. All of the moments throughout the day are captured in video. Then when it’s time to take group photos or head off for the bridal party photo shoot, I switch over entirely to taking photos. So from a video perspective the bridal party photo shoot isn’t included in the Next Day Edit and for the photos it’s just those photo specific moments that are prioritised. Photos can still be taken at any point during the day as you’ll see below, but any candid moments would be captured first and foremost in video, so they can be included in the Next Day Edit!

Speeking of which… check out Sarah and Connor’s Next Day Edit right here:

Sarah and Coner were married at Mt Vernon Lodge, Akaroa in early February. The delightful local Celebrant, Angie Mack, kept us all entertained and made sure the proceedings went to plan.

Throughout the morning I took a range of ‘posed’ group photos. Some of them spontaneous, others a little more set up. 😊

The view from the lawn at Mt Vernon Lodge takes in the Akaroa harbour which makes it the perfect spot for the Ceremony. Even with a flower girl who wanted to grab a seat half way down the aisle 🤣 everything went smoothly and before we knew it Sarah and Conor were husband and wife!

For the Ceremony my first priority is filming everything with good audio so I can put together single clear video that takes in everything. This is then delivered as an additional video. Perfect for sharing with anyone who couldn’t make it on the day. Also perfect for convincing your aunty that she doesn’t need to sit in the second row filming from her iPad. 😅

I film the Ceremony from two cameras which lets me get closeups and wide shots simultaneously. I can make a professional looking ceremony video while I also get shots to use in the Next Day Edit highlights video.

Between this full length video of the Ceremony and the best moments in the Next Day Edit that’s almost everything you would want from the Ceremony right?!… But I appreciate that there are moments here that you want to have as photos. So once I’ve edited the full ceremony video I go through and export all the best moments as stills. The best of both worlds!

After a big group photo we took a range of family group shots before heading off to the bridal party photo-shoot near the Onawe Pa.

For Sarah and Conors bridal party photo shoot I was focused only on taking photos. It was very relaxed for me, before now I’d only ever shot the bridal party in video, or simultaneously in through photos and video. So just taking photos was a bit of a breath of fresh air. Of course it helped hugely having such a great spot and such great people to take photos of. We had a great time and I’m super proud of the shots I was able to deliver. Check them out here:

After a cracking good photo-shoot we headed back to Mt Vernon for the Reception. The bridal party took a bit of downtime to chill out while I headed inside to set up for the Reception where I’d be filming the speeches. At the close of the speeches Sarah and Conor’s MC let everyone know that I was around to take photos of all the couples and any family or candid shots people wanted. I just love this type of arrangement, it feels to me like a great use of a photographer at a wedding. Check out some of those shots here

It was a great day, and I was pretty chuffed driving home. A few hours later I had Sarah and Conor’s Next Day Edit finished and ready to send. Then it was off to bed as I had another wedding to shoot the following day!!

Here’s what Sarah had to say about my services in a review:

‘Rowan was our photographer and videographer for our wedding earlier this year. We chose him originally because we loved the look of the work he had done in the past. Rowan has such a great personality, and he made everything calmer on the day. It didn’t feel intrusive having him there with us throughout the whole day, from getting ready to our dance. It was actually nice having him there. We felt very lucky we found him. We went with the Next Day Edit, which we highly recommend. It was lovely to receive the video the next morning and to be able to start our marriage by watching the big day. Absolutely love the video and it is something we can keep forever. We received the photos fast as well. We were expecting it to be weeks or even months, but we got them within a week. They were fantastic as well. He really has a talent. We would definitely recommend Rowan to everyone.‘

I’m delighted this experiment of a Next Day Edit with Photography worked out so well for everyone. I can’t wait to roll this out to more couples.

So if this sounds like something that could be a good fit for your wedding day, then get in touch! I’d love to hear from you 😊 😊 😊
