Maddie and Nic's West Eyreton Wedding
I shot photos and film at Maddie and Nic's Wedding. It was a super fun, super relaxed day in the sun.
Watch their Highlights video here:
I'm going to talk about about some of my favourite shots and moments from Maddie and Nic's wedding. I've also set up a larger gallery of Photos and their full length Wedding Film here.
Most of the images I talk about in this blog are extracted from the video I shot for the Wedding Film. By shooting a special high quality video format I'm able to extract photos that rival the resolution of traditional photography. In effect this means I can shoot video and deliver photos all at the same time. For my clients, it's the best of both worlds.
Shortly after I arrived to get shots of Nic and the groomsmen I got this hilarious shot. Nic and one of the groomsmen are checking out 'a guide to getting married' prepared for Nic and Maddie by their great wedding Celebrant Jane Godfrey.
I really like this shot of Nic getting ready. He looks like he's taking things very seriously 😀 and the groomsmen getting ready in the background is a nice detail.
Maddie and her nephew say hello to mummy. They had a play while I got some shots.
Maddie's mum buttons up the wedding dress.
I love this shot of Maddie putting her earrings on. 🙌🙌🙌
Maddie and Nic were married in a beautiful garden just down the road from the reception - if you watch their Highlights Video or full Wedding Film you'll see an incredible shot I got from beneath the trees. In the shot the camera starts looking up at the sky and tilts down following the gap in the trees until Nic and the groomsmen come into view, lucky for me the timing was perfect as Nic and the boys were just walking over to take their place for the wedding ceremony.
These shots were taken seconds apart, in the first Nic's looking serious, and a moment later he's in midst of a good laugh.
At the rehearsal the day before I suggested that the bridal party enter from around the corner. This way we got a dramatic reveal of Maddie 😁 and we got to make even better use of the stunning gardens.
Nic’s trying to keep a lid on it 😁 In the video it’s even cooler, you can really see his eyes widen.
The trees made for a natural aisle, and the way the seats were spaced gave the ceremony a very relaxed feeling. I enjoyed getting my shots from the very back of the aisle, staying out of the way so everyone up the front could get on with having a distraction free ceremony.
Maddie and Nic exchange smiles, laughter and rings. The ceremony went off without a hitch, thanks to Jane Godfrey who married Maddie and Nic.
I like to capture the kiss two ways. A wide shot that takes in everything and close up that’s all about the bride and groom. The garden setting of Maddie and Nic's wedding made for a beautiful background when it was thrown totally out of focus
Maddie and Nic head back down the aisle while their guests shower them with petals.
The width of the aisle was fantastic, and really brings this shot to life as we can see more of everything. There's really no benefit to having a narrow aisle. It's so comfortable for everyone if the aisle can easily accomodate at least three people side by side.
It wouldn’t be a wedding without a shot of everyone punching the air now would it?
After the family group photos were taken, the bridal party relaxed with a few drinks while the guests made their way down the road to the reception. We were in no rush so I encouraged Maddie and Nic to enjoy their time before we got into the full photoshoot. In their Wedding Film you can see some of these moments, for me it was a opportunity to get some truly candid moments.
Check out this small selection below, some are dedicated photos while others are shots extracted from video. It takes less than a second to switch between photo and video modes. So doing double duty through this part of the day is easy as!
It was a fun photoshoot. Getting shots with the car was a particular highlight 😀 I'm stoked with how the full group shot came out.
Maddie and Nic's Reception was at the West Eryeton Hall a cute country hall with a lovely outdoor area.
I've seen many Haka at weddings. They're always a highlight but this was something else. Between the staging and the ferocity of the performance it was a sight to behold. The pictures are great, but check out the stand-alone video I put together for Maddie and Nic to get the full effect.
We absolutely had to get a group shot with the bridal party around the light up 'LOVE' Sign. 😁
It’s always a great idea to decorate with light, and your videographer/photographer will love you for it. 😆
We found some time between the speeches and the first dance to sneak out and get some photos in the field behind the West Eyrton Hall. The intense summer sun from earlier in the day was gone so the light was much easier to work with.
With the tables and chairs cleared the West Eyrton Hall is transformed for the dancing, Everyone watches as Maddie and Nic kick things off.
Maddie and Nic's wedding was a great day to be involved in, between the garden ceremony and the cute country hall reception, it was exactly my kind of wedding! Intimate and relaxed with a focus on spending time with family and friends. I'm really happy with the film I made to capture and tell the story of their day, it’s loaded with my favourite kind of unpredictable moments and beautiful shots that take in the day they created.
Here's what Maddie and Nic had to say about my work:
'Wow Rowan the video is absolutely perfect, I’m soo super happy with it!!! And the photos are perfect too. It’s so good to see it all again, it brought back the feelings from the day! Thank you so much!!!! [....] we’re super happy with everything you’ve done. It’s all perfect, you’ve done the best job! Thanks '
Thank you Maddie and Nic for the privilege and honour in trusting me with capturing your wedding day and telling your story.
And of course, a super closeup shot of Maddie and Nic’s Wedding Rings 👌👌👌
