Sophie and Scott's Awesome Orton Bradley Park Wedding
I shot photos and film to capture Sophie and Scott's Wedding. It was a beautiful day. Watch their highlights video here.
In this blog I'm going to talk about about some of my favourite shots from Sophie and Scott's wedding, I've also set up a larger gallery of photos and included the full length wedding film here.
First a quick note on how I shoot photos and video simultaneously for weddings. Most of the photos in this blog are still-images from video. Because the quality of the video is so high, I'm able to extract photos that rival the resolution of traditional photography. This means I can shoot video and deliver photos all at the same time. For my clients, it’s like having your wedding cake and eating it too. 😉
I think that the best way to capture and tell the story of a wedding day is through a film. However traditional photography still has it’s place. The big group photo, the formal family photos and the bridal party photoshoot are good examples of when photography is the best tool for the job. My photo and video service is all about finding the balance between photography and videography so you get the best record of the day.
This is so cool! Sophie, her mum and the bridesmaids made their bouquets. I was excited when Sophie told me about this plan during one of our early meet ups. I knew it would be an opportunity for some great images. The flowers, and Sophie's parents’ cute house in Diamond Harbour, made for a really colourful start.
Not only did they make their bouquets, Sophie's mum got her own wedding dress and started tearing strips from it to complement Sophie’s bouquet. The result was a deeply personal and beautiful bouquet.
Scott and his groomsmen got ready just a short drive down the road. I got this lovely shot just after Scott's family arrived to say to say hi.
The boys charge their beers.
I got this shot of Sophie's dress hanging up just a few moments before she put it on. I'd also taken some cool shots of it hanging up outside earlier in the morning, but in the end I like the simplicity of this shot.
The last minute repair of one of the dresses 😆, makes for a hilarious photo!
Sophie's mum helps her into the dress and attaches the veil. In the film I was able to do this fun shot. It starts behind Sophie as mum attaches the veil, then I pan over to the mirror getting a whole new perspective 😁. Shooting into mirrors can be risky for all the obvious reasons but when it works out the results are really cool.
I also got a shot where Sophie was looking at the camera, but I thought this one was super cute.
This shot's random but I like it. Sophie has just got out of the car and she flicks her dress up to catch it, I like photos that freeze the chaos of a wedding day.
Sophie and Scott were married at Orton Bradley Park in little clearing nicknamed the Green Cathedral. Shortly before the ceremony Scott and the groomsmen made their entry.
Sophie and her Dad walking down ‘the aisle’.
The walk down the aisle is my favourite part of the day, and this shot is my favourite to get. It's all happening here: Sophie and her dad are walking the final few steps, Scott's in the distance waiting patiently, and all the guests are watching.
Thi is my other favourite shot from the walk down the aisle - shooting past the bride to catch the groom’s reaction. Scott didn't disappoint on the day, once Sophie was close enough he broke into a big smile.
By shooting the ceremony with multiple cameras, I'm able to capture big moments like the kiss with different shots. It’s all the benefits of a second shooter without an actual second shooter, I like to shoot one angle on the kiss with a long lens that isolates the bride and groom, making the whole moment all about them. Then another camera takes in the whole view with all the guests and bridal party.
A cute moment between Sophie and Scott at the very end of the ceremony.
After taking the family group photos, we explored Orton Bradly Park. These are some of my favourite shots, they are a mixture of stills from video and dedicated photography.
See if you can spot which is which. 😁
Later I got some shots with just Sophie and Scott.
Shooting at Orton Bradly Park was such a delight, there are so many places and so many cool spots to get great shots.
There are two things I love about this photo. Scott's holding the flowers. And just how dirty the hem of Sophie's dress is - that's a well worn wedding dress. 😁
And because the hem of Sophie's dress was so dirty from our adventures arround the park, and because it was raining by this time anyway, Sophie gave it a little wash in a nearby stream. 😆
Sophie and Scott laughing during the speeches. If I can find the right spot the speeches can be a great opportunity to get some beautiful candid shots.
Sophie and Scott dance it up with the rest of the bridal party.
One of my final shots of the night was this beauty of Scott giving Sophie a kiss while she fixed her hair. Super. Cute. 🥰 🥰 🥰
I got this shot of Sophie and Scott's wedding rings by hanging them from a branch behind Sophie's parents’ house. I love shooting close ups of the wedding rings and I think this might be my favourite to date. It was hard to get them to stay in line like that but I got there in the end 😆 (if you squint and look closely you can sorta see me and my camera in the reflection 😁 😁 😁
Sophie and Scott's wedding at Orton Bradly park was beautiful. I loved every decision they made, the whole day felt like they were doing their own thing at every turn, from making the bouquets in the morning to the the green cathedral for the ceremony and Sophie washing her dress in the stream.
It was such a fun day.
Here's what Sophie and Scott had to say about their film and photos:
🙌 🙌 🙌 - thanks for having me along to your wedding Sophie and Scott. It was a privilege to be involved and help out.
Cheers,
